Healthy Living and Nutrition Mentoring
With a conscious lifestyle, many physical illnesses and mental health problems can now be prevented. “Healthy living coaching” is a “preventive” health service developed to help you with these issues. Today, a doctor acting as a “life coach” can significantly prevent many diseases by implementing “personal health management.” Essentially, your life coach will equip you with the skills and methods to manage risks.
Because the “Life Coaching” program is designed for individuals who want to protect their health and enter the future years healthy, to manage health risks under the guidance of a doctor, i.e., with doctor coaching. Adapting to the health risks of modern life, protecting both mental and physical health, and remaining healthy in later years, is no longer something an individual can do alone.
Just as a high-level, modern company has a board of directors consultant, individuals who want to manage their health in this modern age need a “health management consultant,” or “life coach,” to fully benefit from the modern opportunities available to them.
“Life coaching” is not a health check-up or a method of disease screening, diagnosis, or treatment.
Some of the topics covered in Dr. Birgül Altuntürk’s program include:
* Assessment of health status
* Assessment of appearance and aesthetic concerns
* Necessary information and suggestions on healthy living
* Planning of annual general and specific health check-ups
* Active lifestyle and exercise
* Conscious nutrition, weight control
* Positive living, stress prevention and stress management
In short, your life coach is a health and motivation program developed to help reduce health risks, maintain and improve health, slow down aging, and prevent potential diseases at every stage of life.
What is Healthy Eating?
Healthy eating is the consumption of sufficient and balanced nutrients to maintain a normal life. During daily food intake, not only the energy value of the food but also the amount of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats it contains, as well as the vitamins and minerals it includes, are very important to us. A healthy meal must have a balance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and should also be rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
The importance of healthy eating has increased, especially in recent years with the rapid increase in obesity. It is known that a lack of information or misinformation on this subject is also effective in increasing the global obesity prevalence. You should always obtain your healthy eating education and diet prescriptions from a qualified doctor or dietitian. Because as the incidence of obesity and related diseases increases, unfortunately, healthy eating and dieting have turned into a market, and people are being exploited for profit by fake experts.
So, what is obesity, and why is it dangerous?
Obesity is the condition of excessive fat accumulation in the body due to a sedentary lifestyle, the consumption of foods with high energy and fat content, or other metabolic disorders that develop over time. This condition, which negatively affects people both physiologically and psychologically, leads to a situation called ‘metabolic syndrome,’ also known as ‘new world syndrome,’ which causes cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
After developing these diseases, regular doctor check-ups, frequent medication, and very strict diet programs are implemented, making the already difficult life even more challenging for the patient. What is important for us is to assess, protect, and improve our health status early.
To understand whether we have a healthy body, we should first calculate our Body Mass Index (BMI), which is the ratio of weight to height. If there is a risky situation, a specialist should be consulted immediately.
To calculate your BMI:
Weight (kg) / Height squared (m²)
The resulting value;
Below 18.5 kg/m² – Underweight
Between 18.5-24.9 kg/m² – Normal weight
Between 25-29.9 kg/m² – Overweight
Between 30-39.9 kg/m² – Obese
Assessment is made according to the above value ranges.
Also, our bodies give us signals about whether we are eating properly through our skin, hair, and nails. If we experience dryness, rashes on our skin, and breakage, thinning, and lifelessness in our hair and nails, we should definitely review our diet and seek help from a nutritionist.
