Complementary Medicine (CAM) Practices

What is (GETAT)? and What does (GETAT) deal with?

GETAT stands for Traditional and Complementary Medicine. GETAT takes a holistic approach to the human body. It addresses physical, mental, and spiritual health as a whole. Instead of focusing on the causes of diseases, it aims to improve the person’s overall health.

(GETAT) applications can only be performed by doctors who have received training approved by the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Birgül Altuntürk has been serving her patients with “OZONE THERAPY,” a GETAT application, for approximately 20 years.

OZONE THERAPY

WHAT IS OZONE?

Ozone is a chemical compound consisting of three oxygen atoms (O3). It is a very high-energy form of normal atmospheric oxygen (O2), which consists of two atoms. Thus, the structures of these two types of molecules differ from each other as follows:

O3 is a colorless gas at room temperature with a characteristic odor (detectable after stormy weather, at high altitudes, or on the seashore). Its name comes from the Greek word “ozein,” meaning “to smell.” It was discovered in 1840 by the German chemist Christian Friedrich Schönbein (1799-1868). Near ground level, it exists as smog at concentrations of one O3 particle per 10 million air particles (= 0.1 ppm = 200 µg/m³). At an altitude of 2000 meters, this concentration decreases significantly to 0.03 – 0.04 ppm.

Thanks to its very strong oxidizing and highly effective disinfecting properties, it is used worldwide as a germicide in water treatment plants that supply drinking water. In ancient times, ozone, located in the stratosphere of the atmosphere, which absorbs harmful rays from space and especially the sun, preventing them from reaching the Earth’s surface, was called “Breath of God (ozein)” in Greek. Perhaps those who accept the biological interpretation of the Quranic verse, “We breathed into man from Our Spirit,” are right, given the vital importance of ozone to our lives. (Ozone, with its pungent odor, is derived from the Latin word “ozein” (foul-smelling)). The fresh air we breathe in after storms with lightning and thunder is caused by ozone, which is produced during the electrification of clouds.

WHAT IS OZONE THERAPY?

Ozone therapy is a healing treatment that uses ozone gas, an active oxygen molecule. Applied in many countries around the world, including the USA, Canada, Europe, Russia, and Japan, ozone therapy has become one of the most sought-after complementary medicine treatments in recent years. Ozone was first used in medicine during World War I to heal wounds. After World War II, the beneficial effects of ozone were proven in various fields, and the use of modern equipment for certain treatments with ozone became even more widespread.

HOW DOES OZONE THERAPY WORK?
Ozone is a high-energy form of oxygen, as we all know. Ozone cannot be administered to humans through inhalation like oxygen for therapeutic purposes. This is because its strong oxidizing properties make it irritating after a certain dose if inhaled in its pure form. However, ozone is easily absorbed through the skin and tissues. Therefore, ozone therapy is generally performed by ozonizing the blood. Ozonization of the blood is either done by ozonizing the patient’s blood and returning it to them, or by applying ozone to tissues outside the respiratory system using various methods.

Very shortly after entering the bloodstream, ozone begins to exert its effects as high-energy oxygen, entering the cells. In the form of hydrogen peroxide, it initiates biological and therapeutic processes. Cells respond in various ways according to their characteristics and types. Red blood cells, in particular, rapidly begin to transport oxygen to areas lacking sufficient oxygen, while simultaneously stimulating the bone marrow to produce new red blood cells. Platelets and endothelial cells, in response to this stimulation, release growth factors. This accelerates wound healing. Certain components formed in the blood cause vasodilation. This improves blood flow to areas with insufficient circulation. Stimulation of neutrophils and increased cytokine synthesis strengthen the immune system. Ozonized leukocytes, on the other hand, eliminate suppression in the lymphatic system and activate it. Bone marrow, upon receiving these signals, begins the production of new cells, leading to the regeneration of damaged organs and tissues.

The endocrine (internal secretion) and central nervous systems respond to these signals by accelerating metabolism and releasing neurotransmitters and hormones. Ozone stimulates cellular components and enzyme systems, accelerating the body’s own antioxidant protection.

The rapid increase in antioxidant enzymes in the blood prevents harmful processes. In this way, chemicals that have entered the human body through various means or have been produced as a result of metabolism but could harm human health are eliminated.

In short, and as understandably as possible for everyone, we have tried to explain the beneficial effects of ozone on the human body as follows:

  • Feeling better: Common statements from people undergoing ozone therapy indicate that it helps them feel very good, energetic, and healthy.
  • Strengthening the immune system: It helps people recover from various diseases more easily and prevents them from contracting such diseases again.
Improved blood circulation: By widening blood vessels and accelerating the production of blood cells, it helps improve blood flow to areas with insufficient blood supply. In this way, various vascular diseases can be treated.
  • New cell production: Increased cell production can help heal wounds that are not healing. Furthermore, it helps restore the health of aging cells in humans, who age with each passing day after birth, and promotes the development of younger cells. The renewal of damaged tissues is possible thanks to ozone.
  • Detoxifying effect: It helps protect the human body from potential harm by removing harmful substances.
  • Antimicrobial effect: It helps kill various disease-causing agents such as all known viruses, bacteria, and fungi. In this way, it becomes possible to treat diseases that are medically untreatable or very difficult to treat.
  • Pain relief: In addition to eliminating the cause of pain, it helps to eliminate the sensation of pain in a short time by removing the chemical components that cause the pain to be felt.
  • Anti-carcinogenic effect: In general, cancer cells form and reproduce in an oxygen-free environment. By providing tissues with high oxygen levels through ozone, carcinogenic cells lose their ability to reproduce.
  • Improving quality of life: In addition to all the benefits it provides, it helps to improve the values called quality of life by reducing or eliminating people’s physical and mental problems.

APPLICATION METHODS

  1. Major autohemotherapy (treatment by taking blood from the patient)
With this method, 50 to 100 ml of the patient’s blood is taken, mixed with precisely determined ozone, and then returned to the patient. (sterile ozone-resistant consumables and vacuum bottle) (Used!)
  2. Minor autohemotherapy (ozone injection)
With this method, 3-5 ml of ozonized blood is returned to the patient intramuscularly. It is used in allergic diseases and generally to strengthen the immune system.
  3. External treatment
Ozone gas is administered in a closed system using special ozone-resistant bags. It is used in the treatment of open wounds.
  4. Rectal application
Used in inflammatory diseases of the intestines, as well as for anti-aging and strengthening the immune system.
  5. Intra-articular injection of ozone
Applied to the joint with painful inflammatory disease (can be applied in arthritis, recurrent arthrosis, general pathological stiffness)
  6. Regional slimming and cellulite treatment
Applied to areas with dense fat tissue and cellulite using a special technique.

HOW MANY SESSIONS OF OZONE THERAPY?

Treatments are completed in an average of 10-12 sessions. The number of sessions may increase depending on the patient and the disease.
