What is cellulite?

The orange peel appearance of the skin, usually in the hip and thigh areas, is called cellulite, or hydrolipodystrophy in medicine.

Cellulite is not ordinary fatty tissue. It forms especially when the fatty tissue close to the skin is damaged. The breakdown of the fibers (collagen and elastin) surrounding the fatty tissue causes the fat cells to be compressed into small lobules, resulting in the orange peel appearance.

While cellulite is very rare in men, regardless of their weight, it affects 90-95% of women and is concentrated mostly in the hips, thighs, inner knees and ankles, backs of calves, and upper thighs.

Causes of Cellulite: *Genetics *Excess weight *Diet *Sedentary lifestyle *Smoking and alcohol

Levels of Cellulite:

Level 1: The orange peel appearance is not noticeable when lying down or standing, and the skin appears smooth.

Level 2: The skin appears smooth when lying down, but some dimpling is noticeable when standing.

Grade 3: The skin has an orange peel appearance both when standing and lying down.
