Tips to Prevent Weight Gain at New Year’s Eve Dinner

New Year’s Eve dinners are one of those events we should attend at least once a year. A huge turkey stuffed with rice, Christmas tree-shaped cookies, Santa Claus cupcakes, champagne – it’s a calorie bomb of sorts, making it highly conducive to weight gain.

So how can we get through this day without any major problems (i.e., without gaining weight)? How can we protect ourselves from the high calories of these delicious foods? Here are the answers:

Don’t go to the party hungry!

In addition to the chips, salty nuts, chocolate, and biscuits readily available, parties generally begin with plenty of fatty appetizers. These are the first foods you’ll find upon entering the party. Salads, soups, turkey, and dishes cooked in olive oil usually come much later, after everyone else has taken their seats. Therefore, if you don’t arrive at the party on an empty stomach, you can protect yourself from high-calorie snacks and much more easily maintain your appetite until the healthy main courses.

Exercise before the party!

You can do a solid cardio workout on the morning of your New Year’s Eve dinner. This way, you can make room/prevent extra food from being enjoyed! To avoid betraying your morning cardio, I’m sure you’ll pay more attention to what you eat.

Consume alcohol in moderation!

Of course, you’ll consume alcohol on New Year’s Eve, but the important thing is not to consume it unnecessarily! Instead of drinking from noon until evening using New Year’s Eve as an excuse, use New Year’s Eve as an excuse but set a limit for yourself! For example, set a limit of 3 glasses of alcohol. Instead of exceeding the limit in the evening hours by consuming this starting in the afternoon (or from the very first second of the party), it would be better to choose calorie-free drinks until after dinner.

Don’t buy too much junk food!

If you’re hosting the New Year’s Eve party yourself, you’re very lucky; you can cook and prepare all the food, from snacks to soups, in a healthy way. Of course, you may have to buy some junk food considering your guests. The less you buy, the less unhealthy food you’ll have in front of you all day. If you’re invited to a party, instead of bringing a Christmas basket full of junk food, you can bring healthy snacks you’ve prepared/bought yourself. This way, you can enjoy your own healthy snacks throughout the evening and avoid the host’s greasy meals.

Go for what’s healthier!

Instead of snacks high in fat, salt, and sugar like crackers, biscuits, and chips, it would be much better to opt for cheese platters, dark chocolate, non-fried seafood, and raw nuts.

Calm down!

You’re sitting at the Christmas table; before filling your plate with food, take a deep breath, calm down… Observe the people around you and the food on their plates. While your overweight friends are filling their plates with carbohydrates and fatty foods, your fit friends are gravitating towards plenty of salad and skinless parts of turkey, right?

Make your own New Year’s wish!

I think we all have many expectations for the new year. A new car, a bigger house, a prince charming, a long vacation in a warm country… I think there’s one wish we want even more than all of these; “To be healthy and fit, to look better!” You can make this wish come true for yourself. You can start by not filling your stomach with calories in the first hours of the new year!

*Wishing everyone luck, happiness, health, and love in the new year…*
