Botulinum Toxin (Botox)

Botulinum toxin is a medical protein derived from the bacterium “Clostridium botulinum.” It is considered a non-surgical, cosmetic product for reducing moderate to deep wrinkles.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Wrinkles in the skin are caused by the contractions of the fine muscles beneath the skin. Botulinum toxin reduces wrinkles in the injected area by blocking nerve transmission and “preventing muscle contraction.”

WHO CAN RECEIVE BOTULINUM TOXIN TREATMENT?

It can be applied to anyone between the ages of 25 and 65. It is especially used in the treatment of wrinkles on the face and neck. It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

WHICH AREAS ARE MOST COMMONLY TREATED WITH BOTULINUM TOXIN?

This treatment can be applied to all areas where wrinkles form, including horizontal and vertical lines on the neck, the vertical line between the lower lip and chin (marionette line), to prevent the gums from showing when smiling (gummy smile), to lift the tip of the nose and correct bunny lines (bunny lines) that appear during facial expressions, smoker’s lines above the lips, lines between the eyebrows that cause a frown, horizontal lines on the forehead, crow’s feet around the eyes, lifting both sides of the eyebrows, and creating eyebrow contour. It is also successfully used in the treatment of excessive sweating in the palms, soles of the feet, and armpits (hyperhydrosis), to soften the masseter muscle and create a V-lift effect, and in the treatment of bruxism (teeth grinding).

**PREPARATION PRECAUTIONS**

  1. Blood thinners such as Aspirin, Omega-3, and Vitamin C should not be taken for at least 2 days before the injection.
  2. NSAID (painkiller) medications should be discontinued 2 days before the procedure. These medications may increase the likelihood of bleeding and/or bruising.
  3. For 12 hours after the procedure, remain in an upright position, avoid strenuous exercise, and do not massage, touch, bend over, or stand up at the injection site.
  4. Do not wash your face or apply powder, concealer, cream, etc. for 12 hours after the procedure.
  5. Do not consume alcohol for 12 hours after the procedure.
  6. Do not lie on your stomach or side for 12 hours after the procedure; sleep on your back.

WHEN CAN A PATIENT RETURN TO NORMAL ACTIVITY AFTER BOTULINUM TOXIN TREATMENT?

The patient can return to normal activity immediately after the injection. The effect of Botulinum Toxin begins after 3 days and is fully apparent in 15 days.

HOW LONG DOES THE EFFECT OF BOTULINUM TOXIN LAST?

Botulinum Toxin application provides improvement for an average of 4-6 months. This period can extend up to 12 months with increasing application numbers. After the effect of the application wears off, wrinkles return to their original state, and with regular Botox treatments, the skin regains a better appearance than before.

Why do some Botox applications look artificial and bad?

When Botox is administered by individuals who do not know facial anatomy and are not qualified physicians (nurses, aestheticians, hairdressers, etc.), drooping eyelids, expressionless faces, asymmetries, devilish looks, and mouth deviations can occur. A physician who knows which facial muscles to target and in what dosage to administer Botox would not produce such results.

I had Botox injections, but the effect was short-lived, what is the reason?

1) Physician-related reasons;

Not using the original Botox medication, diluting the product excessively, not administering the correct dosage.

2) Patient-related reasons;

Heavy athletic activity, use of B12 and other supplements and muscle relaxants, development of antibodies against Botulinum toxin due to frequent injections, etc.

What is the difference between male Botox (Brotox) and regular Botox?

– Male facial muscles, traction, and skin structure are different from women’s. Brotox application should be done taking these factors into account, without altering the masculine expression.

– The application doses and points are different for men. The process is carried out while preserving naturalness.

What is Gummy Smile Botox?

Gummy Smile; is the visibility of the gums during smiling. This procedure directly targets facial muscles, making the gums less prominent when smiling. This results in a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing smile. Gummy Smile Botox treatment is a minimally invasive procedure and is usually completed quickly.
