Botulinum Toxin Application
WHAT is Botulinum Toxin?
It is a medicinal protein obtained from a bacteria named “Clostridium botulinum”. The Botulinum Toxin is considered a non-surgical cosmetic product which is used in the treatment of average and deep wrinkles.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The causes of wrinkles are the contraction of the thin muscles under the skin. The Botulinum Toxin reduces the wrinkles by “preventing muscle contraction” by blocking the passage of the nerves in the injected area.
TO WHOM the Botulinum Toxin Can Be Applied?
It can be applied to anyone between the ages of 25-65. It is mainly used in the treatment of wrinkles on face and neck area. It is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
WHICH AREAS IS the Botulinum Toxin OFTEN APPLIED?
It can be applied to all areas where wrinkles occur such as the treatment of horizontal lines and vertical bands, the horizontal line between the lower lip and the chin, lines that cause frowny eyebrow and located between two eyes, horizontal lines in the forehead, and lifting of the sides of both eyebrows. It is also successfully used in palms and subcutaneous sweats (hyperhidrosis).
WHAT SHOULD YOU PAY ATTENTION BEFORE AND POST APPLICATION?
– Aspirin and drugs containing aspirin should not be taken.
– NSAID (painkiller) should be discontinued two days before the application. These drugs can increase the chances of bleeding and/or bruises.
– You should stand still, no heavy exercise should be performed and muscles at the injected area should not be worked for 1-2 hours after the application.
– You should not wash your face, use powder, concealer, cream and so on for 1-2 hours after the application.
WHEN THE PATIENT RETURNS TO HIS/HER DAILY LIFE AFTER Botulinum Toxin?
The patient can go on to his/her daily life after the application. The effect of Botulinum Toxin starts after 3 days from the application and full effects will be observed within 15 days.
WHAT IS THE EFFECT OF Botulinum Toxin AND HOW LONG IT LASTS?
The Botulinum Toxin application offers 4-6 months improvement. This period can be extended to 12 months if the number of applications increases. The wrinkles will return to their original state or the skin will have a better look when compared to the previous condition after the effect of the application will end.
